Streamer University may be over, but viral moments from the week-long event are still fueling conversation across social media. Most recently, content creator OjaySuave is speaking out after facing backlash for comments he made about PlaqueBoyMax’s “DIVA” tattoo.
Last week, social media erupted after a video captured a roughly five-minute conversation between OjaySuave and PlaqueBoyMax during Streamer University. In the clip, Ojay criticized Max over his recent decision to get “DIVA” tattooed across his ribs. He questioned Max about why he wanted to be “a diva,” then told him he was confused, needed guidance, believed his parents likely felt some type of way about the tattoo, and accused him of clip farming. Ojay then told Max, “You’re not a diva. You’re a grown man,” before adding that he should not “sell his soul.”
Following the tense exchange, Max walked away to a secluded area, where he addressed what had just happened on stream. He said Ojay could have spoken to him off-camera if he genuinely cared instead of confronting him in front of viewers for a viral moment. Visibly emotional and in tears, Max said he would continue to be himself regardless of what others think. He also encouraged people to love one another and avoid being close-minded, adding that it should not matter whether someone is gay or straight. Before ending his stream, Max reminded his viewers to always be themselves and embrace what makes them different.
Now, Ojay has returned to social media with a 12-minute YouTube video responding to the backlash surrounding the viral conversation with PlaquBboyMax at Streamer University. In the video, he said he was simply joking while portraying a satirical “Jamaican uncle” character. Ojay also claimed he had not been active on social media in the days leading up to the exchange, saying he was unaware that discussions surrounding Max’s tattoo had already taken an emotional toll on the streamer. He added that he apologized if the joke came across as too harsh, but maintained that his intentions were never malicious. Ojay also argued that posting online opens the door for public opinion. He said creators should be comfortable expressing themselves regardless of how others respond.
As clips from Ojay’s response continue circulating online, users flooded The Shade Room Teens’ comment section with mixed reactions.
