Nicki Minaj just can’t catch a break from the swatting pranks it seems. The rapper found herself in the middle of yet ANOTHER swatting situation this week, just two years after the same thing happened at her home. Someone called the cops, claiming there was a shooting taking place at her Hidden Hills property, only for officers to show up at the residence with nobody home.
According to the Los Angeles Times, law enforcement swarmed the rapper’s mansion on Wednesday, April 9, after the call came in around 7 p.m. claiming there was a shooting at her crib. Given the nature of the call, deputies pulled up quick, only to find… nothing. Minaj and her family were NOT home when cops pulled up, and there were no signs that an altercation had occurred at her mansion.
But here’s where it gets shady. The same publication reports that the mystery caller chose not to call 911 but instead hit up the sheriff’s business line directly. The caller then alleged that someone had popped off and shot a woman at Nicki’s address, with two people supposedly still lurking around.
Despite showing up at the home, it was clear to law enforcement that the call was, in fact, a prank. One that Minaj had been dealing with for years at this point.
Back in 2023, Minaj was hit with this same tired prank TWICE, starting in June of that year when someone called child services, claiming her son, Papa Bear, was being abused. Police showed up and spoke with Minaj and her husband, Kenneth Petty, before checking on the then-three-year-old. They ruled out any abuse and called the incident yet another hoax.
Following the incident, Minaj managed to find out who was behind the prank call and publicly addressed the matter on X (formerly known as Twitter), claiming she was filing an arrest warrant against the person.
“To the woman who made those swatting calls to my home… #WasItWorthItDumbo,” she tweeted out, per Complex.
She proceeded with another tweet mentioning the person’s name and added, “A warrant is in the system. Great detective work. So grateful. The DA filed one count for the swatting call and one for the false report to DCFS. To God be the glory.”
So far, Minaj has not responded to the most recent swatting prank.
Minaj’s prank call nightmare comes just two weeks after rapper Young Scooter tragically lost his life over a hoax call on his 38th birthday in Atlanta, Georgia.
As previously reported, Demetria Spence allegedly phoned the cops on March 28, claiming a woman was being beaten and that shots were fired at a house on William Nye Drive SE where Scooter was.
When police rolled up, two men, including Scooter, rushed out the back. Scooter tried hopping a couple of fences but sliced his right thigh in the process, tearing his femoral artery. The rapper, who shared close ties to Future, bled out and died at the Grady Hospital, per PEOPLE.
Spence was arrested on April 1 and charged with transmitting a false public alarm, and now folks are wondering what her motive behind the call was.
