Gennia Grimes was a viral dancer for Alabama State University’s Honeybeez. On March 27, 2025, however, she was found deceased; reportedly shot in the head. Initially, her boyfriend, Rogers McCloud Jr., alleged she died by suicide.
However, the investigation into her passing seems to be proving otherwise.
What really happened to Gennia Grimes? And who is responsible?
The Shade Room’s Justin Carter is posing these questions and striving to get answers on ‘TSR Investigates.’
According to Carter, on March 27, her body was found with a gunshot wound to her head, apparently inflicted from the left side of her body. Gennia was reportedly right-handed and “terrified” of guns, according to her cousin, Jasmine Grimes.
When deputies arrived at the scene, Rogers McCloud Jr., her boyfriend of two years and father of her nine-month-old son, reportedly told authorities that Gennia had shot herself while they were in a car together.
Gennia’s cousin, however, believes that McCloud Jr. had a plot to steal Gennia’s tuition money. Per Jasmine, Gennia had been gifted the money by family members.
“He took the money — she asked him about the money, and he probably just crashed out,” she told Carter.
According to Gennia’s mother, Angela, “crash outs” were apparently not foreign to the couple’s relationship. One incident reportedly occurred between the pair in the weeks before Gennia’s passing.
“A few weeks ago, she found something in his phone, and he got mad, and he broke her iPad and he broke her phone. He tried to break her TV,” Angela Grimes told Atlanta reporters.
According to Jasmine, after the shooting McCloud Jr. showed Gennia’s deceased body to one of her family members on Facetime. Additionally, McCloud Jr. allegedly called his mother before calling 911 to report Gennia’s passing.
“After he got off the phone with his mom, I guess she told him what to say when [he] called the police, and I feel like she should go to jail too because you’re an accessory to a crime,” Jasmine told Carter.
