RealBleeda is going to stay locked up after a judge shut down his bond request in the 2024 murder case that’s been building since September.
The 24-year-old rapper, whose legal name is David Catherine, faces first-degree murder and obstruction of justice charges connected to the death of Teressa Calligan, a youth advocate who was shot multiple times while driving along Airline Highway in Baton Rouge.
Judge Louise Hines made the call on Thursday, keeping RealBleeda in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, where he’s been held since his arrest.
Calligan wasn’t just anybody in the community. She was the dean of coding for the Futures Fund division of the Walls Project, running programs that gave teenagers real tech skills and opportunities.
On September 15, 2024, she was stopped at a red light when a vehicle pulled up beside her, and someone inside opened fire. She lost control of her car and crashed into a sheriff’s office unit.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to WBRZ, RealBleeda is one of three defendants in the case, alongside Roger Parker and Robert Lewis, both of whom are also facing the same charges.
RealBleeda’s legal team tried a different angle by presenting an alibi witness.
McKenzie Roach testified that she was with the rapper at his West Baton Rouge home the night Calligan was killed. His attorney, Ryan Thompson, argued that police never properly investigated this witness, which could’ve changed everything.
The judge wasn’t convinced enough to let him out, though.
In Louisiana, first-degree murder carries life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty, meaning RealBleeda is facing serious time if convicted.
Court records show that RealBleeda is connected to the Bleedas gang, as documented in a Monroe case.
