The internet is holding its breath as Savannah Guthrie goes public about a terrifying family ordeal. The ‘TODAY’ co-anchor posted a tearful video pleading for the safe return of her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, who’s reportedly gone missing outside Tucson, Arizona. And, the FBI makes a visit to her sister’s house as fans and followers stay glued to their screens.
In the Instagram video posted Wednesday, Savannah reads from prepared remarks, speaking directly to the camera. She urged anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the family’s need to confirm their mother is alive. “We live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated,” she said, stressing the urgency of hearing directly from whoever may be holding her mom. Savannah’s heartfelt words were accompanied by a description of Nancy as a “kind, faithful, loyal, fiercely loving woman of goodness and light,” loved by her grandchildren and friends alike.
Savannah didn’t hold back when talking about her mom’s fragile health, revealing that Nancy lives in “constant pain” and desperately needs medication to survive. Reports reveal that she also uses a pacemaker, which stopped syncing with her Apple Watch. Former ATF agent Jim Cavanaugh told ‘TODAY’ that the clip hits differently because it lets the public see Nancy beyond the headlines, while also highlighting the family’s hope and readiness to hear from whoever might have her.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen Sunday evening (Feb. 1) after her family dropped her off at home. Additionally, she did not show up for church the following day. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is investigating her possible abduction, with state and federal officials, including the FBI, involved. Authorities haven’t identified a suspect or person of interest and report no evidence that anyone targeted the disappearance.
Furthermore, FBI agents were spotted at Savannah Guthrie’s sister Annie’s home in Arizona on Tuesday as the search ramps up. Photographers caught FBI and sheriff’s deputies leaving the property after a two-hour meeting that Savannah also attended.
Officials stayed tight-lipped as they left. However, police reveal that Nancy’s blood was found on her home’s porch. Annie’s husband, Tommaso Cioni, was reportedly the last person to see her mother, bringing her back from dinner Saturday night, and authorities say she may have been taken “…in the middle of the night.”
