Fans are left heartbroken and in shock after learning about the passing of Grady Demond Wilson. Grady was best known for playing Fred Sanford’s son on the NBC sitcom ‘Sanford and Son.’
TMZ reports that Grady Demond Wilson died on Friday morning, January 30, at his home in Palm Springs, California. He was 79. His son, Demond Jr., confirmed that he passed away following cancer complications, though he didn’t specify the type of cancer. Demond Jr. also spoke briefly about his father to TMZ, saying, “I loved him. He was a great man.”
PEOPLE also shared that Grady’s publicist, Mark Goldman, said there are no further details about his death at this time and his family requested privacy while they mourn his passing. Goldman also reminisced on working with Grady for over a decade and believes his legacy will live on forever.
“Personally, I had the privilege of working with Demond for 15 years, and his loss is profoundly felt. He was an unbelievable man, and his impact will never be forgotten. The family appreciates the support and understanding of the community during this difficult time,” Goldman said in a statement.
Grady Demond Wilson began acting in the 1970s with an uncredited role in ‘Cotton Comes to Harlem.’ He then took on small roles in ‘All in the Family,’ ‘Mission Impossible,’ and ‘Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In’ before landing his big break in 1972 as Lamont Sanford on ‘Sanford and Son,’ which ran until 1977. Other cast members from the series who has passed away include LaWanda Page (Ester Anderson), Redd Foxx (Fred G. Sanford), Whitman Mayo (Grady Wilson), and Lynn Hamilton (Donna Harris).
