Alijah Arenas is on the road to recovery after a terrifying car accident left him in a medically induced coma just last week. The 17-year-old son of Gilbert Arenas and Laura Govan is now on the mend, with his family offering a new update on his condition.
Alijah Arenas, a 2025 USC basketball recruit, has reportedly been released from the hospital following a terrifying car accident that left him in a medically induced coma last week. Arenas was reportedly driving back from the gym when he “lost control” of his Tesla Cybertruck. The truck reportedly crashed into a tree and a fire hydrant before catching on fire in the Reseda area of the San Fernando Valley.
In a statement shared with ESPN’s Shams Charania, a spokesperson for the Govan and Arenas family confirmed Alijah’s release.
“We are grateful to share that Alijah Arenas has been released from the hospital and is now resting comfortably under close watch,” the statement said. “While his journey to full recovery is just beginning, his spirit remains strong, and he is surrounded by love and support. The Govan and Arenas family are preparing for the road ahead with faith and determination, committed to nurturing Alijah back to 100%. He remains blessed, resilient, and in high spirits.”
The family is also asking for continued privacy as 17-year-old Alijah begins the healing process, both physically and emotionally. No further details about the accident or his current condition have been shared.

As previously reported by The Shade Room, Alijah Arenas was involved in a devastating car crash last Thursday that left him in a medically induced coma. First responders were dispatched to the scene shortly before 4:55 a.m. to a single-vehicle collision. They responded to reports of a “trapped patient,” but by the time they arrived, Alijah had already been pulled from the vehicle. While the LAFD did not initially identify the victim, ESPN later confirmed it was the 18-year-old rising basketball star. And, he was hospitalized due to severe smoke inhalation. Shortly after news broke, his mother, Laura Govan, took to Instagram with a cryptic post asking for prayers.
Despite the intensity of the crash, sources say Alijah miraculously suffered no broken bones. Furthermore, he was reportedly alert enough to recall the smoke from the crash and even managed to write a message asking, “Did anyone get hurt?” According to eyewitnesses who pulled him from the burning Cybertruck, Alijah was able to communicate that he was alone in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
For those who may not know, Alijah is the son of former NBA player Gilbert Arenas and reality TV personality Laura Govan. A five-star high school basketball recruit and USC commit, he recently landed a major sponsorship deal with Adidas and is widely considered one of the top young talents in the country.
