Whew! Matt Barnes’ ex-fiancée Anansa Sims did not hold back as she shared a lengthy Instagram post clapping back at the former NBA player after he spoke out about losing his family.
Her response comes shortly after Barnes dived deep into the recent personal changes he’s faced in a new episode of his ‘All The Smoke‘ podcast.
The father of three has been pretty quiet about his private life following his ex’s claims he allegedly cheated on her with seven other women, including Masika Kalysha, in January. It’s worth noting that Kalysha has denied these allegations.
But on Thursday, Barnes released a new podcast episode in which he candidly admits that his behavior ultimately led to losing his loved ones. He now recognizes that his lack of emotional presence, empathy, and strength as a household provider played a huge role in that loss.
“Through my actions, I literally just lost my family… I wasn’t there emotionally, I wasn’t empathetic,” he expressed in part.
Refusing to reveal his emotions to others, which he indicates is a habit he’s kept since childhood, Barnes remembered his ex frequently telling him he acted like a “wall.”
The ex-basketball star continued to reflect, realizing that while the grown man he is today may seem to have it all together, the emotionally wounded boy from his past is still lingering inside him.
“Trying to dig back and understand, and I started counseling that, like you said, little Matt, from back then is still hurt — and still trying to find his way. Although grown Matt feels like he has it all, little Matt is there more than I realize,” he said.
He went on to challenge his male viewers who can relate to the struggle of expressing their emotions to others. Additionally, Barnes posed the question of how to cry when the tears just won’t come. While the California native says he understands the power of shedding them, he hasn’t truly cried in “30 years.”
Chile, Sims had her thumbs ready to type, oh-kay! Within hours of the podcast going live, sis had a full response typed up. And y’all know it’s serious when the clapback is long and ends with “Peace & Blessings.”
After accusing Barnes of wrecking their relationship by allegedly cheating, Sims was not here for the “half-truths” in a supposed attempt to win over public sympathy. Furthermore, she called him out for supposedly putting on a show of vulnerability for likes and follows instead of manning up where it counted.
Sims says their children still need emotional support over their father’s actions and that Barnes changing the narrative of what caused their split did the opposite of healing open wounds.
“Don’t post half truths about me and our past relationship to gain sympathy from the masses,” she wrote in her IG post. “If you don’t have respect for yourself or for me, at least have respect for our children who follow you and see your posts. Your post is triggering for the kids and I, while we’re in the midst of healing and rebuilding our lives. We’re the ones who reaped all the damage you caused by your constant selfish, toxic choices.”
Additionally, Sims stressed that Barnes should stop talking about their past and that all she and the kids were trying to do at this point was mend and move forward.
“If you want to do some good, please don’t speak about me, go get consistent therapy and most importantly start building a relationship with God,” she added before concluding with, “Peace & Blessings.”
