Ayesha Howard is hitting the internet with that “don’t do too much” energy! In an exclusive statement to The Shade Room’s China Lovelace, Ayesha defended her daughter’s dad, Anthony Edwards. Her comment was about a viral video of a mother refusing to buy the NBA player’s sneakers for her son due to his personal life.
For context, Ayesha welcomed their daughter in October 2024. Since then, their parenting negotiations have crept up online, including his refusal to be involved.
As mentioned, Ayesha Howard’s defense of Anthony wasn’t a random act of kindness. On social media, a video of a mother and minor son shopping for sneakers went viral after she refused to buy Edwards’ 1 low iron metallic basketball shoes. As soon as the boy picked up the sneakers, his mom told him to “put them back because he don’t take care of his kids.” Her son seemed to nod along to her logic, and then the mom encouraged him to grab another pair of shoes.
“[Ja Morant] takes care of his daughter. Kobe Bryant…he’s a great dad even in the afterlife,” the mother said.
Thousands of reactions to the video later, Ayesha Howard shared hers with TSR. She seemed to disagree with the mother’s approach to rejecting Anthony Edwards’ sneakers.
“I’m not sure if this child knows of Anthony’s personal issues, and if he doesn’t, I think it’s unfair to take away the part of Anthony that he does more, which is obviously his basketball talent. Anthony is a great player, but the mother is in control of what she supports from a moral woman’s standpoint,” Howard told China Lovelace.
Her new statement comes days after she exposed Anthony Edwards on social media with now-deleted screenshots. Ayesha was clapping back at allegations that she trapped the 23-year-old with a child. Howard, who is in her late 30s, has two children: a son named Jason with rapper Lil Baby and a daughter named Aubri Summers with Edwards.
After Aubri’s birth, Anthony reportedly petitioned a Georgia court for a DNA test, which proved to be a positive match in December. Then, last month, he admitted to the court that he wasn’t interested in child custody or visitation rights. The only matter he wanted clarity on was child support.
