Roommates, we’re nine days into Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ federal trial, and today Kid Cudi will take the witness stand. Earlier this week, prosecution in Combs’ sex trafficking and racketeering case teased Cudi as a witness. Then, on Wednesday (May 21), they confirmed that the ex-boyfriend of key witness Cassie is one of five brief witnesses testifying on Thursday.
The Shade Room captured a video of Cudi, whose legal name is Scott Mescudi, entering the Manhattan courthouse on Thursday morning. The rapper wore a casual outfit, including blue jeans, a white T-shirt, a black leather jacket, and a cigarette in his mouth.
After former personal assistant George Kaplan wraps his testimony about working 80 to 100 hours weekly for Sean Combs from 2013 to 2015, Cudi will take the stand. According to the Associated Press, the ‘Day ‘n’ Night’ artist will not testify for long.
To keep it a buck, Kid Cudi’s court style is not too far from his usual persona. The Cleveland-born and raised artist is known for his skinny jean swag. He’s been doing his BIG ONE in the music industry since the 2000s with his alternative hip hop, emotional music. The Grammy Award-winning rapper began as a protégé of Kanye West. Now known as Ye, he signed Cudi to his G.O.O.D. Music label in 2008. Cudi left in 2013. By then, he had secured features on Jay-Z’s ‘The Blueprint 3’ and West’s landmark ‘808s & Heartbreak.’
One thing about Cudi: he’s always had an eye and ear for innovation. In 2022, his album ‘Entergalactic’ came out alongside a Netflix adult-animated romantic comedy of the same name. He previously told The Associated Press that the collab project allowed him to “explore the abstract.”
During week one of the trial, Cassie testified that Sean Combs arranged for her to meet Kid Cudi in 2011 to work on music. The two began dating soon after, and she said she got a burner phone to communicate with Cudi in secret.
Cassie said she and Combs had broken up at the time, although they still engaged in “freak offs” that Combs arranged. During one of those sex parties, Cassie testified that Diddy looked at her phone and learned of the Cudi relationship. In response, she said he lunged at her with a corkscrew and kicked her in the back.
When Cassie and Combs were out of the country in 2012, Combs told her that Cudi’s car would be blown up. Combs allegedly said he wanted Cudi’s friends there to see it, Cassie testified.
On Tuesday, Cassie’s mother, Regina Ventura, testified that Cassie told her Combs was so angry about her relationship with Kid Cudi. The producer planned to release sexually explicit videos of her and send someone to hurt Cassie and Cudi. Regina testfied that she wired Combs $20,000 to stop the threat, which she got back a few days later.
