Michelle Obama has broken her silence and addressed the divorce speculation surrounding her and Barack.
According to E! News, on Tuesday, April 8, the second part of a Michelle’s appearance on Sophia Bush’s podcast ‘Work In Progress’ was released. Per the outlet, during the episode, Michelle opened up about her apparent decision to appear less frequently in the public eye following her family’s exit from the White House.
“That’s the thing that we as women, I think… we struggle with disappointing people. I mean, so much so that this year people were… they couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing,” she said. “This couldn’t be a grown woman just making decisions for herself, right?”
As she continued on topic, she explained that “that’s what society does to us.”
“We start actually, finally going, ‘What am I doing? Who am I doing this for?’ And if it doesn’t fit into the sort of stereotype of what people think we should do, then it gets labeled as something negative and horrible,” she explained.
Per TODAY, Michelle explained that she’s embracing “whatever [she] want[s].”
“It’s also a little scary because as a mom and a busy person I always had — it was somebody else’s excuse. Why didn’t I do this? Why haven’t I gone there? ‘Well, I have to make sure the girls are OK, or my husband’s president, so I can’t do that,'” she recalled. “Now I can’t blame my decisions and indecisions on anyone other than me. As a woman, I think if I’m honest with myself, I could have made a lot of these decisions years ago. But I didn’t give myself that freedom.”
Per the outlet, earlier this month, Barack opened up about being in a “deep deficit” with Michelle after his presidency.
“I was in a deep deficit with my wife, so I have been trying to dig myself out of that hole by doing occasionally fun things,” he reportedly explained while in discussion with Hamilton College President Steven Tepper.
VIBE reports that the former president’s statement arrived after he appeared solo at President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and Donald Trump’s inauguration. Earlier this year, rumors even surfaced alleging he was dating Jennifer Aniston — which Aniston reportedly denied.
As The Shade Room previously reported, Donald Trump’s inauguration went down on January 20, 2025. Ultimately, Barack Obama attended the event solo. However, a few days before, Kid Rock called out Michelle for her speculated absence.
“I heard Michelle Obama is not attending. I would kindly remind her that years back, when Obama was first elected, I did not vote for him, but they asked me to play the inauguration, and I played it, and I went,” he said at the time. “Had a good time. I went out of respect for the presidency. So, I would kindly remind Ms. Michelle about that. I don’t know, she seems a little angry. She might be…I don’t know.”
