Love Island‘s Melanie Moreno isn’t ready to slap a label on her relationship with Sincere Rhea just yet, and she’s making that clear to anyone still hoping for a “Melcere” announcement. Melanie Moreno, who placed third alongside Rhea during the Season 8 finale, opened up about where things currently stand between them in a new interview with Vulture, and she’s keeping things refreshingly honest.

“We’re not exclusive, we’re not boyfriend-girlfriend,” Moreno said. “I’m also not in a rush to get that title. I know how he feels about me, but I think I just want to take it day by day.” It’s a notably grounded approach for someone who became an overnight sensation, and it seems intentional on her part.
Since exiting the villa, Moreno has graduated from balancing multiple jobs to managing over 5 million followers across TikTok and Instagram. But that rapid rise hasn’t come without complications. According to her recent interview, Moreno described her post-villa life as a mix of “happiness and hell,” admitting that public criticism made it difficult to openly share her relationship with Rhea. She revealed that several brands had even offered her gifts and money if she ended things with him during the show, adding to the pressure surrounding their connection.
“Everybody was free to post their couple and be in this relationship,” she said, “but I couldn’t because everybody would come for me and call me names for it.”
Despite the noise, Moreno has kept a sense of humor about her viral villa moments, even buying a T-shirt featuring a meme of her own wide-eyed expression. Still, she’s been clear that there’s a line between playful jokes and outright cruelty.
“Why are you being so mean to us?” she said. “It was a show, and yeah, you didn’t like a lot of our decisions. But we entertained you for a summer.”
Outside the show, Moreno and Rhea have continued spending time together, going on low-key dates like riding swan boats at Echo Park and grabbing ice cream. Rhea currently lives in New Jersey and has floated the idea of eventually relocating to Los Angeles, but according to Moreno, moving in together isn’t on the table anytime soon.
“Me and him wouldn’t move in together,” she said plainly.
For now, Moreno seems focused on experiencing an actual relationship with Rhea outside the pressures of the villa environment, rather than rushing toward any specific milestone. She acknowledged the concern from fans who want to see her in a healthier, more secure dynamic, saying, “I understand why people want better for me. I want better for me. Give me a sec.”
Moreno’s decision to repeatedly forgive Rhea inside the villa, even after he was caught exploring with other contestants and lying about it, divided the fandom throughout the season. Some viewers praised her emotional maturity, while others felt she was giving him too many chances. She’s since addressed some of the fallout from other castmates as well, including brief tension with fellow Islander Kenzie Annis, though Moreno has said she’s open to repairing those relationships too.
As for what’s next with Rhea, Moreno seems content letting things unfold naturally rather than forcing a title or timeline onto something still finding its footing outside the villa’s cameras.
