"This job demands sacrifice - most people are not cut out for it" Peacock has revealed an official trailer for a new spy thriller-comedy series, inspired by a true story, called
PONIES - out to watch in
January 2026. Debuting one month from now.
PONIES atually stands for "persons of no interest" in intelligence services lingo. Set in 1977, two secretaries working at the American embassy in Moscow become CIA operatives after their husbands die under mysterious circumstances.
Emilia Clarke is an over-educated, Russian-speaking child of Soviet immigrants. Her cohort is Twila, played by
Haley Lu Richardson, is a small-town girl who is as abrasive as she is fearless. Together, the two ladies work to uncover a vast Cold War conspiracy and solve the mystery that made them widows in the first place. The 8-part espionage thriller series also stars
Adrian Lester,
Artjom Gilz,
Nicholas Podany,
Petro Ninovskyi, and
Vic Michaelis. Even though it takes place in Moscow, it was filmed in Budapest, Hungary earlier this year. I dig the levity in it. And these two women have off-the-charts chemistry that makes this series seem especially entertaining. Worth a look. //
