Shannon Sharpe’s legal drama is heating up as explosive claims and a rumored tape have stirred public interest. And, with a $50 million lawsuit from ‘Jane Doe’ on the table, one piece of key evidence is staying under wraps for now, per her lawyer Tony Buzbee.
Key Evidence Will Stay Under Wraps
Buzbee, who is representing Gabriella Zuniga under the pseudonym Jane Doe, says there are no plans to release a video that allegedly shows the parties involved having sex. The attorney called it “key evidence” in the legal battle ahead. Tony Buzbee told TMZ Sports that the footage will remain private for now despite public pressure. According to him:
“The only reason you know about the existence of a video recording is that Mr. Sharpe specifically referenced it in his bulls*** statement,” Buzbee said. “The contents of the video was shared during the mediation process with Sharpe’s attorneys. Again, Sharpe and his team disclosed that, not us. Sharpe himself was offered on more than one occasion to view it himself. He declined. We’ve never made any claims or threats about it and won’t do so.”
Sharpe took to Instagram on April 22 to claim the clip—just 30 seconds long—was being used to “make [him] look guilty” and play into damaging stereotypes. He claimed the whole video is 10 minutes long and challenged Buzbee to release it in its entirety. However, Buzbee said, “We won’t be ‘releasing’ the video as it is key evidence in the case and will be treated as such.”
Backstory On The Case
As previously reported by The Shade Room, Shannon Sharpe is facing a $50 million civil lawsuit filed by a woman who alleges that he raped and physically threatened her. The accuser claims she met Sharpe at a Los Angeles gym in 2023 when she was 20. The two reportedly entered into a nearly two-year relationship, which allegedly included two separate instances of rape—once in October 2024 and again in January 2025. In addition to the sexual assault accusations, the woman alleges Sharpe used physical force against her and inflicted emotional distress. The lawsuit, filed in Clark County, Nevada, is seeking significant financial compensation for the alleged abuse.
The woman’s claims have sparked a legal battle, with Sharpe and his legal team strongly denying the accusations. Following, Sharpe posted a statement on social media through his attorney, asserting that the relationship was consensual. He labeled the lawsuit a “blatant and cynical attempt” to shake him down for millions of dollars. The allegations have stirred significant attention, as Sharpe—who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011—has enjoyed a successful career in both football and media. As the case progresses, Sharpe’s legal team vows to fight the claims, maintaining that the accusations are false.
How Shannon Sharpe’s Been Handling The Legal Battle
After the release of alleged audio tied to sexual assault claims, Shannon Sharpe took to social media to deny the accusations. In the video, Sharpe addressed his family, friends, and colleagues, claiming that attorney Tony Buzbee, who has previously targeted figures like Jay-Z, is behind the orchestrated effort. Sharpe accused Buzbee of attempting to manipulate the media by possibly releasing a 30-second sex tape to make him appear guilty. He further stated that his encounter with the woman involved was consensual and “at her invitation.”
Additionally, Sharpe announced last Thursday that he would temporarily step away from his duties at ESPN. The Pro Football Hall of Famer said he would use this time to focus on his family and address the “false and disruptive” allegations. Sharpe plans to return to the network at the start of the NFL preseason. ESPN also expressed support for his decision, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation while agreeing with his choice to step aside during this challenging time.
