Gerald Griggs, an attorney for the family of Joycelyn Savage, has reportedly detailed their reaction to R. Kelly‘s plea for a pardon by President Trump.
On Wednesday, June 18, TMZ published an exclusive report, asserting that the outlet spoke with Griggs. Additionally, Griggs reportedly shared that the Savage family believes Kelly “should absolutely not be pardoned.” Furthermore, they believe their daughter has been missing “for years.” Additionally, they believe Joycelyn is still under his “grip” and “control.”
Griggs noted the Savage family hasn’t heard from Joycelyn since a “short phone call” in 2019. Nonetheless, per Griggs, the family believes she is “alive, hopes she’s healthy, and says they’d love nothing more than to hear from her directly.”
As for the singer, the lawyer relayed that the Savage family believes Kelly has never taken accountability for his crimes. Therefore, in light of his conviction, he should serve his full prison sentence.
Furthermore, the outlet reportedly requested comment from Kelly’s attorney, Beau Brindley, on Joycelyn Savage. Brindley reportedly told the outlet that the singer’s legal team is not willing to discuss Joycelyn at this time. Instead, they’d like to keep the present focus on Kelly and possibly discuss Joycelyn at a later date.
Jocyelyn Savage’s parent, Timothy and Jonjelyn, previously spoke with TMZ in 2019. At the time, the parents informed the outlet that they were trying to get in contact to inform Joycelyn about her grandparents’ death. However, their only means of contact with her was through R. Kelly’s camp. Furthermore, at the time, they believed they were being shut out.
In December of the following year, Timothy reacted to rumors that his daughter had given birth to R. Kelly’s child. Timothy called the allegations false, and even shared that he was unsure if Joycelyn was still alive, per The Shade Room.
Later that month, Kelly even set the record straight on the pregnancy rumors.
Then, earlier this month, R. Kelly’s legal team held a press conference, alleging his life was in danger behind bars. At the time, they shared that an inmate at the North Carolina facility where Kelly is being held was approached about taking his life. At the time, the singer’s team noted their desire for him to receive a pardon from President Trump.
Then, over the weekend, Kelly was reportedly hospitalized after being over-medicated by prison staff and sent into an overdose. Subsequently, his legal team alleged the prison was preventing him from receiving proper medical care. Therefore, he should be temporarily released to home confinement.
