Shannon Sharpe wants everyone to know that he wasn’t throwing shade toward Nicki Minaj after he was unsure about which “Nicki” a fan was referring to when they asked him to bring her on ‘Club Shay Shay.’ Nicki Minaj appeared to peep the exchange between Shannon and the fan, seemingly calling him out in her verse on the remix of Lil Wayne’s ‘Banned From NO.’ Now, Shannon is clearing the air, saying he just wanted the fan to clarify who they were talking about — plain and simple.
Shannon Sharpe Clears The Air After Nicki Minaj Drops Bars About Him
For context, a fan reached out to Shannon Sharpe on X (formerly Twitter) in February and asked him to bring Nicki on his ‘Club Shay Shay’ podcast. The message ended up resurfacing online, showing the fan writing, “Nicki said a few days ago she wanted to be on your own podcast!!! I really want to hear you talk about everything going on in the media and especially after her snub tonight.” The fan never specified which Nicki they were referring to, so Shannon replied, “Nicki who?”
Nicki appeared to catch the interaction and recently posted some lyrics from her verse on Lil Wayne’s ‘Banned From NO’ remix on X. To note, the song was featured on Wayne’s ‘Carter 6’ album, released earlier this month.

Welp, Shannon Sharpe is addressing the mix-up now. He broke it down on his ‘Nightcap’ podcast with Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson, saying he wasn’t even talking about Nicki Minaj. In fact, he actually thought they meant Nikki Haley, a politician and former U.N. ambassador. He mentioned having some issues with some comments that Nikki Haley previously made, so he thought it was her, not Nicki Minaj. “It wasn’t meant as disrespect. Yes, I know who you are.”
Shannon then followed up with an apology to Nicki, saying he didn’t mean any disrespect and she’s more than welcome to pull up to ‘Club Shay Shay.’
“Nicki, I apologize. I meant no disrespect. You always have an open invitation if you ever want to come sit down and have a conversation. Even if you just want to have a private conversation on the phone or something,” he said.
Nicki Won’t Let Shannon Off The Hook Yet
At this point, the Barbz already know nothing gets by Nicki. She caught the new footage of Shannon speaking out on the ‘Nightcap’ podcast and took another playful shot at him and Ochocinco. She said she only mentioned Shannon in her verse on Wayne’s track because she had to ride for the Barbz.
“Thank you, Shannon b/c I was like ‘chiiii what I done did now?’ You never cleared that up to the Barbz so I had to avenge them,” Nick wrote.
