Asja Outerbridge, a Detroit mom, turned a Zoom court hearing into a viral moment that has the internet abuzz with reactions. Sis had the judge heated over making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for her sick daughter mid-hearing while rocking a robe. From being late to the call to getting kicked off shortly after, see how this story unfolded!
Before her back-and-forth with Judge Sean Perkins, Outerbridge was already running 22 minutes late to the virtual hearing. It was scheduled for 9 a.m. sharp. She was facing a misdemeanor charge for allegedly having an open alcohol container as a car passenger, per FOX Detroit.
But instead of giving her full attention to the judge, Outerbridge was busy spreading peanut butter for her young daughter, Parker. The 3-year-old was apparently sick and wanted something to eat, prompting Outerbridge’s mama instincts to kick in.
But Judge Perkins was fuming, telling her, “Put whatever you’re trying to prepare down.” He wasn’t just annoyed about the sandwich, though, as he also side-eyed Outerbridge’s energy after being late and seemingly unprepared for court. The hearing, which has since been shared on platforms such as YouTube and X (formerly known as Twitter), turned into a viral moment online.
As if the sandwich-making wasn’t enough, Judge Perkins also didn’t feel Outerbridge’s attire choice. “Is that a robe?” he asked, clearly done with the whole situation. She tried to defend herself, saying she had a T-shirt on underneath and was just multitasking for her sick baby girl. But the judge wasn’t hearing it. “You’re in court, and we’re going to treat it as such,” he hit back.
Within two minutes, he booted her off the Zoom hearing. Two hours later, when she rejoined the call, the judge still wasn’t done with her. He reportedly called her out after allegedly catching her “rolling her eyes” before setting her trial date, per the Kansas City Star.

After the clip blew up online, Outerbridge sat down with CNN affiliate WWJ to explain her situation in greater detail. She touched on the difficult times she’d been facing as a single mother, recalling her daughter being sick that day.
“I have a 3-year-old daughter, and I’m a single parent. That day, I had to call off work. I had to call her out of school because she was vomiting,” she shared.
Outerbridge owned up to her missteps, admitting she could’ve been more prepared. “I definitely was wrong. I could have come dressed better and more prepared,” she confessed. Additionally, she also made it clear she wasn’t taking the situation lightly, especially after it blew up online. Outerbridge made sure to offer her sincere apology to Judge Perkins, adding:
“I don’t want the judge to think that I’m laughing at the situation at hand because I’m not. I take that very seriously. I do genuinely, with a serious face, apologize to the judge.”
The internet had jokes, nonetheless! Some users pointed out the irony of the judge getting mad over Outerbridge’s robe since he was wearing one.
