An 81-year-old woman from Ocala, Florida, has been arrested after allegedly pepper-spraying her neighbor as well as her two young daughters playing with bubbles in their backyard. The shocking incident has now prompted the kids’ mom to speak out. April Morant is detailing the sudden confrontation between her little ones and the neighbor in a new interview. And apparently, they’ve been at war with this individual for months. Here’s the lowdown…
Ada Anderson was arrested on Friday, May 30, after allegedly unleashing pepper spray on April Morant’s daughters, ages 3 and 6, per WSAZ. According to the mom, her babies were minding their business, blowing bubbles in their backyard. Suddenly, Anderson reportedly emerged from her side of the fence, acting irritated. She then proceeded by allegedly hurling racial slurs at the kids, escalating things to a whole new level of ugly.
For some context, the neighbor’s yard is separated by a fence, with the opposite side being where the Morant family home is located. They’ve been living at the property since November and have faced issues with Anderson ever since. The mother says her kids were “well away” from the fence at the time of the incident. But it appeared Anderson was still bothered by the whole thing and decided to take matters into her own hands.
Upon hearing the alleged racial slurs made to her kids, Morant tells WSAZ she initially assumed her neighbor was holding a gun after noticing something in her hand. Additionally, there have been issues with her in the past, which gave Morant all the more reason to be concerned about her family’s safety in that moment.
But before she could even react, Anderson had allegedly pepper-sprayed her kids.

Anderson was hit with battery charges on several counts over the incident. However, the family isn’t exactly thrilled, stressing that she deserved a harsher punishment. Moreover, Morant says she has recordings of her neighbor making racial comments at her family long before things escalated with pepper spray.
“Just battery? But nothing on the kids, or maybe a hate crime because you were saying all this stuff while you were spraying this stuff,” she said. Morant believes local authorities could have done more in this situation. But she’s not done with Anderson yet.
To ensure the safety of her family moving forward, she’s now looking to save up enough money to move out of the Florida property. But until then, Morant plans to file a restraining order against Anderson for the duration of the time it takes for her to relocate.
“For you to do the bear spray stuff, like I feel like I don’t know what you have in that house,” she continued. “I don’t know. I don’t want to be by her.”
The news report has attracted widespread attention on X (formerly known as Twitter). Social media users have since weighed in on the situation. Here’s what some of them had to say…
@Wes_0192 tweeted, “She is obviously mentally incompetent and needs to be removed from the public. Poor babies.”
@rayray7823 wrote, “She better be glad that was her… I am armed and when she sprayed my babies… She would have gone somewhere else & it ain’t jail!!!!!”
@glaser_holly asked, “Why is this person not charged with assault?”
Elsewhere, @Scott1036674 wrote, “Come on man! She is 81. Quit acting like it is a huge scandal. She probably has a diaper on with sh** in it because her mind is gone. Yes, I’m sorry it happened to the little ones but you are blowing this out of proportion.”
@EarthSucks1 wrote, “Why wasn’t she charged with a hate crime? Racial slurs + attack surely merits it. If this happened to Jewish children at or around the synagogue, it would be immediately deemed as one.”
@MsGollygee7 wrote, “I can’t imagine being 81 and having such hatred and ugliness within me.”
