As Halle Bailey and DDG continue their court custody battle over their 1-year-old son, Halo, Halle has broken her silence. She is now reportedly denying DDG’s claim that her past threats of self-harm put their son’s well-being at risk. According to Billboard, Halle allegedly told the judge in court that DDG is exaggerating her previously treated mental health struggles.
As previously reported by The Shade Room, Halle Bailey received a temporary restraining order and full custody of baby Halo ahead of her court hearing with DDG, which was set for June 4. However, the hearing was delayed after the streamer filed a competing custody case. In his filing, he highlighted Halle’s alleged history of threatening self-harm.
Halle has now responded to those claims. She stated that her ex-boyfriend’s declaration “has exaggerated, lied and misconstrued for the court, not only the history of our relationship, but our parenting and my mental mental health,’ Halle reportedly explained in her declaration.
The actress also continued to emphasize that she remains available and fully capable of caring for Halo as his mother.
“I have been very vocal about my anxiety, depression, and previous thoughts of suicide. Without waiving the psychotherapist-patient privilege and physician-patient privilege, I have reached out to my doctor and received treatment to address these issues. I have been and remain 100% available and capable as a parent to our son, Halo,” Bailey wrote in her declaration per Billboard.
Furthermore, Halle points out that most of the mental health incidents DDG mentioned occurred in 2022 and 2023. She says his behavior during that period left her “emotionally devastated.” The singer also noted that he never questioned her parenting abilities until the day the court scheduled a hearing for her abuse allegations.
“Had Darryl really been concerned about my parenting, he would have taken action prior to this time. This is cold retribution to embarrass, humiliate and caused me additional emotional distress,” Bailey added.
Halle’s latest response to DDG comes after the streamer filed an emergency motion to prevent her from taking Halo out of the country. According to TMZ, he submitted the motion on Wednesday, June 4, ahead of Halle’s scheduled trip to Italy on Saturday, June 7. In the filing, he claims that she poses an “imminent emotional and psychological risk to their son.
In his motion, DDG accuses Halle of allegedly leaving his house with his registered firearm while she was pregnant. He also claims that she purportedly planned to have an abortion without informing him, but later chose not to proceed with it.
Despite DDG’s claims in his filing, Halle has openly shared her experience with postpartum depression on Snapchat. Several social media users recently defended her, pointing out texts she allegedly sent DDG in 2024 reflected clear signs of emotional distress. They argued that the messages should not be used in court to portray her negatively.
In April 2024, ‘The Little Mermaid’ actress spoke candidly about her journey into motherhood, telling her Snapchat followers that she couldn’t be away from Halo for more than 30 minutes.
“I don’t know if any new moms can relate, but it’s to the point where it’s really bad, and it’s hard for me to be separated from my baby for more than 30 minutes at a time before I start to kind of freak out,” she explained in her Snapchat video.
Halle continued to share that she felt like a completely different person and didn’t recognize herself at that time. “I feel like a completely different person. When I look in the mirror, I just feel like I’m in a whole new body. Like, I don’t know who I am.”
