On Tuesday, ESPN reported that the University of Colorado football head coach is at his home in Texas dealing with an “unspecified health issue.” The timing comes as Colorado kicked off their annual summer football camps without him last week. But last Sunday, his son, Deion Sanders Jr., hopped on YouTube live to let fans know his dad is “feeling well,” though there’s still no word on exactly when he’ll return to Boulder.
“He’ll tell y’all soon enough what he’s going through,” Deion Jr. said. In the meantime, he’s staying close to his pops, saying, “I’m going to sit here with him” until Coach Prime is ready to roll.
This isn’t the first time Deion has faced health challenges. Back in 2021, he had two toes amputated due to blood clots, and he missed the Pac-12 media day in 2023 for the same reason. He was also scheduled to speak at a medical conference in Florida just this past weekend, but had to cancel last minute, according to the Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research. We already know Coach Prime is a fighter, and from what his son’s saying, he’s in good spirits.
