The Tesla founder is wrapping up his time as Senior Advisor to President Donald Trump. Donnie and Elon were tight throughout Trump’s 2024 campaign and his Oval Office comeback. Well, now it looks like their bromance — at least in the official capacity — has ended.
Elon Musk Ends His Role In Donald Trump’s Administration
Elon Musk officially announced his departure on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, May 28, thanking Donald Trump for the opportunity.
“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending. The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government,” Musk wrote.
Since hopping on board the second Trump administration in January, Elon Musk took charge of the Department of Government Efficiency, where he focused on cutting down the size of the federal government. Now that he’s out, he’s closing the book a chapter that was filled with mass layoffs, agency shutdowns and tons of lawsuits. Per AP News, Elon always planned to keep his gig with Trump’s administration short. Recently, he confirmed that he was going to get back to focusing on running his businesses, Tesla and SpaceX. So far, Donald Trump hasn’t said anything about Elon Musk’s resignation letter/goodbye message.

Even though Elon Musk has stepped down from his role with the Trump administration, he’s never been shy about saying Donnie is his right-hand man. Back in February, he shared a message on X, opening up about the amount of respect he has for him.
