Y’all know the internet gon’ internet — and this time, they picked the wrong mama to mess with! What should’ve been a sweet red carpet moment for Shai Moss turned into a whole lotta chatter. And Joie Chavis was not here for it.
Why Did Joie Chavis Clap Back?
If you tuned into the BET Awards red carpet this week, you probably caught the super cute moment between Bow Wow and Shai. The proud dad was on hosting duties, and got the chance to interview his teenage daughter — talk about full circle! Fans were living for the adorable father-daughter moment, but of course, the internet had to internet.
Instead of focusing on the wholesome vibes, folks online zeroed in on Shai’s outfit — an apparent two-piece dress that showed a lil’ hip. Next thing you know, the comments started flooding in, with some alluding to the look being “grown” or “inappropriate.” And, you already know who they pointed the finger at: her mama, Joie.
But, Joie said absolutely not! She hopped on a livestream real quick to shut all that down. The mama of three reminded everybody that she’s always ten toes down for her kids and makes sure everything they do — and wear — is age appropriate.
“At no point did we know it was a cutout. But whoever was styling her should have said, ‘Hey, there’s a cutout.’ And that’s all I’m going to say about that. And, when she put it on, I think they were like, ‘Oh man,'” Joie can be heard saying. “[Shai] had to deal with thousands of grown a** people talking about her,” Joie claimed before adding that, if she were in attendance, things would have gone smoother.
The Moment That Had People Talking
The internet didn’t waste a second before jumping in with opinions about Shai Moss’ BET Awards appearance. Many praised the wonderful young lady she’s becoming, while some simply pointed out her resemblance to Bow Wow. Others, however, weren’t here for Shai’s outfit and didn’t hold back with their disapproval.

Shai & Joie Discuss The Style Mishap
In a separate video, Shai Moss and her mama, Joie, sat down to address the drama head-on. Shai kept it all the way real, admitting that the outfit didn’t come across the way they intended. The teenager explained that there was actually a misunderstanding with her stylist that left her showing more than planned.
Shai also agreed with Joie that it wasn’t the most appropriate look, saying, “It’s a bit much”. However, a time crunch forced her to hit the carpet before they could fix the issue. Shai seemingly handled the situation with maturity and grace, and Joie backed her up the whole way, reminding folks that sometimes things don’t go as planned.
